Johnson and Wisdom sign new dealsIt was officially confirmed today that Glen Johnson and promising youngster Andre Wisdom have both signed contract extensions at Liverpool.  Whilst work is underway at Anfield to lower the wage bill by cutting dead wood from the club, Damien Comolli has also been working hard to tie down present and future star players who could have a big part to play in years to come under the new regime.

Glen Johnson spoke directly to Liverpool.tv about his new deal “I’m very pleased, I’ve been here a couple of years and it’s great to be staying here for a few years longer now.  For the club to want me to be here is a great feeling and I did not have to think twice about signing.” Johnson goes on to say “With the squad we’ve got now, the backroom staff and the way things are going, things are looking positive. The club is looking to bring a few more players in, so the future is looking bright. We’ve made a couple of good signings already and with a few more we will be a right force in the coming season. I’m quietly confident (about the new season). If we take it game-by-game I think we’ll do well.”

Earlier on this morning Liverpool Football Club also confirmed that Andre Wisdom, an 18 year old yet powerful and composed centre back who has worked his way up through the academy to the full senior squad towards the end of last season has also put pen to paper on a contract extension.

Damien Comolli, the Liverpool director of football said “We are delighted. He made fantastic progress last season. He was here at Melwood with the first team for a few weeks to a month towards the end of last season and he did really well in training and was involved with the first team. He also did really well with the reserves. He’s got great potential and a great future ahead of him. Andre is another player who is versatile. He can play, is good on the ball, intelligent and physically very strong. He has all the ingredients to be a top defender.”

This has all been part of a positive week for the club who are nearing the signature of Charlie Adam which could be announced later as well as the squad being strengthened further by the returns of last years on-loan players Emiliano Insua and Alberto Aquilani who returned to training at the start of the week.
