Krul hints at a Dutch international arrival at Newcastle

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

Tim Krul has today leaked exciting news to Toon fans about the possible arrival of Dutch international left back Erik Pieters. Here’s what he had to say-

“We are interested,” the Magpies goalkeeper told De Telegraaf.

“The coach himself and the assistants have already seen a few matches of PSV and the question now is whether the clubs can work it out.

“Our current left-back Enrique has a contract that expires, however, he won’t sign and is interesting many clubs”.

Krul added his desire for his international team mate to join, saying : “Erik is my friend since we played together at the World Championships in Peru in 2005.

“From then we have always kept in touch, regularly send text messages and if possible we get together”.

Newcastle have lined Pieters up as a replacement for Jose Enrique who as we all know is on the verge of joining Liverpool. It now seems like one of the summers most dragged out transfers could now come to fruition, although it is still not yet a ‘done deal’ as Phil Thompson had stated on Scandinavian TV in the Spring.

It will now be interesting to see whether both of these deals will go through before the weekend’s fixtures. From a Newcastle perspective you can only hope that Enrique is retained until his replacement has been confirmed, unlike what happened in January! With the young talent of Shane Ferguson currently being injured the left back spot will always be a cause for concern until a replacement for Enrique has been confirmed.
